The Torrance Chapter

Founder: Aisha Isaac

In building this chapter, we hope to engage refugee youth from all backgrounds. Through social gatherings and activities, we envision that diverse narratives will become the foundation for forging unique friendships. Although exploring American norms is a big part of adjusting, we are dedicated to promoting the preservation of every culture present. We also seek to create partnerships with organizations and individuals that share similar values. Ultimately, our goal is for the teens to feel embraced and comfortable within their newfound communities.

My connection to the Teens at the Door cause is rooted in my experiences observing my family and community members. Growing up as a half Afghan girl has exposed me to realities many may not fully understand, or be aware of. It was one poignant story after the other until I felt truly limited in what I could do. However, the language and cultural barriers that refugees and immigrants face can be overcome with the right support. I am now 16 years old, and feel extremely eager to teach, and learn alongside the teens I meet.
